Union Mandate: The Social Data Science Union (SDSU) is committed to building an inclusive and interdisciplinary community for students interested in the intersection of data science and the social sciences at Simon Fraser University. Our mission is to support and empower students connected to the Social Data Analytics (SDA) program through: Academic Support – Hosting workshops, study sessions, and peer mentorship opportunities to help students succeed in SDA-related coursework. Professional Development – Providing access to networking events, guest speakers, and career-building resources focused on data-driven industries. Career Preparation – Helping students tap into the growing job market in data analysis, statistics, and computational social science by equipping them with in-demand skills and relevant industry knowledge. Community Building – Creating connections across Political Science, Economics, Business, and related fields through events, socials, and collaborative initiatives. Advocacy – Representing SDA students’ academic interests within SFU and advocating for program development, resources, and increased visibility. We aim to cultivate a dynamic environment where students can grow academically, develop practical skills, and build lasting networks that bridge the gap between social inquiry and data-driven solutions.
